Why am I seeing a "Web Login Service - Stale Request..." error message when I try to access a Kortext e-textbook?

Occasionally when you access a Kortext e-textbook from Library Search within your web browser, the e-textbook will not load and instead you will see the following error message:

This is not actually an error with Kortext but with the University's Single Sign-on system, which has recently been upgraded. This message may be unfamiliar to you and you may experience it on Kortext for the first time. However, you could see this message when you try to access any library e-resources, not just Kortext.

You may see this message if you access a lot of Kortext e-textbooks within a short space of time. Whether this is true for you or not, this message will always appear if your browser cache and cookies have not been cleared for some time and there are preventing you from accessing Kortext. This error is very easy to fix.


Answer

Close the tab where you see this error message and then either open the original link again as normal, or right click the link and open it in a new tab. The e-textbook will usually then load and you will see a purple Kortext loading screen. This can sometimes take a couple of attempts, so please be patient and repeat this process a few times.

However, if you continue to see this message after several attempts at refreshing, try clearing your browser cookies and then refreshing or reloading the error page to open the Kortext e-textbook. Alternatively, try opening the link in a new private or incognito window and then logging into Kortext again.
