How do I renew a Kortext e-textbook on my bookshelf that says it is about to expire?

You can access Kortext e-textbooks throughout the current academic year, at the end of which they will usually expire. You may notice that some e-textbooks on your bookshelf display a yellow "Expires in..." banner:

These are e-textbooks that you have accessed from either Library Search or an electronic reading list and are not necessarily core readings for your modules.

Answer

Due to the terms of our Kortext subscription, you can access all Kortext e-textbooks for as long as you remain a University of Exeter student or staff member. As such, Kortext e-textbooks do not really expire at Exeter. You will not lose access to anything on your bookshelf even if it says that it has expired.

Any expired titles on your bookshelf can be reactivated whilst you are still an enrolled student or staff member by accessing them again from Library Search. All previously made notes, highlights, and bookmarks will have been saved.

Some users have experienced a problem where they cannot open expired titles in the Kortext App although they can access them in a browser without any problems. Kortext technical staff have advised that you remove the expired downloaded titles from the app and redownload them using the following steps:

  1. Open the expired title(s) online in a web browser to ensure any notes, annotations, or highlights you have made are synced correctly
  2. Open the app and remove the expired title(s) from your bookshelf by clicking the ellipses button and then "Remove Download"
  3. Open the expired title(s) online again in a web browser to force another sync
  4. Open the app one more and redownload the title(s) there. They should no longer be expired in the app.

If, however, you cannot reactivate a title that says it has expired, just get in touch and let us know which title is not working and we'll liaise with Kortext to ensure that our access to the title you require is correctly activated.
