Can I use my preferred screen reading software with any library e-book?

Answer

For the most part, yes! Library e-books are usually available as PDFs or in EPUB or HTML format that can be optimised for compatibility with screen reading software. This varies considerably by platform and you may need to download an e-book or read it online. Click here to learn more about the formats each e-book platform offers.

However, these e-book formats may be incompatible with your preferred software, in which case you can use SensusAccess, a self-service solution that automates the conversion of documents into a range of alternative formats including digital Braille, MP3, DAISY and e-books. Unfortunately we are still only able to acquire some resources in print. In this case, you can use RNIB bookshare to obtain a digital version of a text that we cannot acquire as an e-book. Click here to learn more about this service.

We realise that there are lots of options available and that is a lot of information to take in. We therefore encourage who has any difficulty accessing library resources in any format whatsoever to get in touch with the Library and we'll be happy to discuss your individual needs and how we can best support you on a one-to-one basis.
