Why is text missing or cut off when I try to print or download an e-book?

Answer

Although all e-book platforms allow printing of pages or chapters within copyright restrictions, printing interfaces vary between platforms. On platforms such as VLeBooks, the only way to print or download part of an e-book is via the Adobe PDF print preview menu, which enables you to either send pages to a printer or save them as a PDF.

When users attempt to print PDF e-books the digital and physical page sizes can become misaligned, which is why text at the bottom of a page is sometimes cut off. We therefore recommend changing the paper size from A4 to A3 on the print preview menu to ensure that each entire PDF page fits within the print preview pane.

Library staff are already aware of such issues with our e-books and, wherever possible, avoid purchasing content on platforms that have reportedly poor user experiences. However, if you would like to give feedback on your own experiences using a specific e-book platform or require additional help, please do get in touch with the Library. Sometimes, we can also source an e-book from an alternative supplier if we currently have access to a version that you find unusable, so it is always a good idea to get in touch with us when you experience difficulty using an e-book.
