Why am I being asked to authorize my device when I open Adobe Digital Editions?
Answer
Adobe Digital Editions enables you to read and access downloaded e-books across multiple devices or computers. Because Adobe doesn't use the Exeter single sign-on system, they instead manage user identities and downloads with a free, unique Adobe ID. You do not need to pay to create an Adobe ID for yourself.
When you open Adobe Digital Editions for the first time, you will be prompted to authorise your computer using your Adobe ID. We recommend doing so even if you don't intend to read e-books across multiple devices. Step-by-step instructions on how to authorise your devices are available on the Adobe website.
You don't have to authorise Adobe Digital Editions, but we do not recommend this as you will then be unable to transfer downloaded e-books between devices if you need to do so in the future. If you're not sure how to authorise or use Adobe Digital Editions, just get in touch with the Library and we'll do our best to help you.
