Why am I seeing a "We can't determine a source for the book you're looking for" error message when I try to access Kortext?

This error can occur if your browser cookies haven't been cleared for some time. However, it most commonly affects former INTO students and staff members who have recently moved to Exeter from another institution.


Answer

Whenever you see this error message, try clearing your browser cookies in the first instance and then refreshing or reloading the error page to open the Kortext e-textbook. Alternatively, try opening the link in a new private or incognito window and then logging into Kortext again. There is some really helpful guidance on clearing browser cache and cookies on Exeter IT's website.

If you continue to see this error message after clearing your cache and cookies (whether on just one Kortext title or on every title that you try), then there may be a more serious problem. Please get in touch with us and let us know:

  • Your Exeter University email address; and
  • The title(s) of the Kortext e-textbooks you are trying to access.

We'll then contact Kortext on your behalf and ask them to reset your account and/or repair the e-textbook(s).

Please note that we are currently aware of an issue affecting former INTO students and staff members who have recently moved to Exeter from another institution that also uses Kortext. If you are one of these users, please do get in touch with us as soon as possible and we will ask Kortext to repair your user account.
