Can I access the British Newspaper Archive via the University?

Answer

No - but alternatives are available!

The British Newspaper Archive is a partnership between the British Library and Findmypast to digitise the British Library's vast collection of newspapers.

This resource is not available to the University.  It can be accessed for free via the British Library reading rooms in St Pancras and Boston Spa, and also via various public libraries.  Contact your local public library to discover if you have access there.

As an individual user, it is free to search online and a few pages can be viewed for free once you register.  Individual subscriptions are also available.

Although, the University does not have access to this service, it does have access to many of the historical newspapers that feature on this service.  Take a look at the range of historical newspapers available to you via the University.  This includes the full British Library Newspapers Collection.

It can be tricky to use the online news sources. If you need any assistance with your newspaper research, please contact your Liaison Librarian who will be happy to help.

You may also find it useful to take a look at News LibGuide.
